How many miles is too many to start adding on mods?

My firebird is almost 10 years old now, has 137,000 miles on it and still runs pretty good. I'm debating on whether it would be a smart idea to start building on the engine and transmission now, or save up for a formula or something with a 5.7 manual already in it.. How much would you guys say I could get for my car, it's got flowmaster exhuast and an open element K&N.. Paint is in nice shape except for some spots in the front and on the sail panels..

If your engine is in good shape it is never too late to put mods on it, if the compression is good and oil pressure is good I would say go for it, and as far as I know GM never put a manual trans on any 5.7 Third Gen. F-bodys. But you could do it yourself, but I would not use a T-5, I would get a Tremec or T-56 trans to use behind a 5.7
