please help, TBI problems

I attempted Ultimate TBI Mods this weekend.
I shaved all the required things, and I attempted to do the fuel pressure regulator, but I did nothing but drill it down a bit, and nothing happened. I assembled the unit and doubled up the gasket for the fuel injector pods (made it stand taller), after replacing all gaskets (including the fuel injectors o-rings and filters) The car seems to have vaccuum leak(s), but all the hoses are hooked up correctly. The car seems almost ok 500- 1800 but if I romp it, it actually slows down a little, and sounds horrible. I can actually see a little smoke too from the exhaust. I do not think I damaged the underside when I was getting at the butterfly shafts... Please help.

P.S. I think i may be rich so I am going to replace my FPR.

Please explain what you did with the whole TB. Did you take the whole unit off or just the injector pod? What were you doing with the butterfly shafts?
I can't figure out if you made the fuel pressure regulator adjustable or not.
Make sure all the vacuum plugs are hooked up or plugged up. There are some in front of the TB unit and in back. If you removed the vac sensor from the air cleaner you need to plug that too.

I took the entire unit off, taped off the intake manifold, then I shaved the butterfly shafts down quite a bit (the things that open the butterflies). After this, I took a hacksaw and cut off the ridges, then polished the area around to get a smoother effect. I cleaned out the ports of the TBI. I took apart the injector pod, & replaced all the gaskets. I tried to make the FPR adjustable, by drilling on top of the cup-shaped part. I removed a whole lot of material w/ the drill & a dremel. I gave up on that, turn it upside down and dremel'd a slot in the bottom of the screw thread and tried to turn the screw w/ a flathead to no avail. I put everything back together, I put all of the vaccuum hoses back on and started it.
It gets wierd here as one of the cylinders was not firing correctly, it ended up being a loose plug wire, but it still seemed rough.
I would take it off again, but it is raining outside.
Thanks for the reply,

Well, something is out of whack for sure. What does it do it you just sit there and let it idle? Does it hunt and peck for it? Then it would be a vacuum leak. If it boggs down then picks up as you floor it, it could be fuel related. Take it back apart and check out what you did to the fuel reg. When you take a close look, you should be able to see what the technical article says about the adjustble part. It is hard to explain, but after you drill free the part that keeps the shaft from turning, you can "groove" the top of the shaft. After that, you can turn the shaft to vary the spring pressure on the diaphragm. My bet would be to take it apart and redo-check over everything. With care, you can re-use the gaskets since they are brand new. Also, if you havn't already done so, check out snuff's articve on the open element.
