cam replacement
cam replacement
ok heres the deal.i was pricing out a new valvetrain for my 91 rs 305 the other day and when i was looking at pushrods and lifters some of them said that they were not for use with 87-up small blocks with a factory roller cam.so i was wondering if i can replace the factory roller cam with a comp cams hydraulic cam,and all the other parts to go with it without any hassle.ive also noticed that there are even some timing chains and gear drives that wont fit the facotry roller cam.any help would be greatly appreciated.

unless you will be reving over 6500 RPM, the hydraulic roller cam is a superior design. If you want a cheap cam get one from an LT1, LT4, or L98. use they should be less than $50 and new should be $140 or more

I agree. GMPP has several roller cams that are nice and cheap, like the LT4 cam and the cam that they use in the RamJet 350, although that one is rather mellow. I'd like the LT4 cam in a 305... Very EFI compatible, too.
