Edelbrock intake and heater valve

Got a few questions for everyone.

I plan on getting a Edelbrock intake for my 305 TBI and probably putting it on myself. Is it as simple as it appears? Does the distributor need to be removed? What's a good set of gaskets to use?

I'll also be putting on some chrome valve covers and want to move the heater valve and direct the heater hoses to the other side of that large black thing that sits above the passenger exhaust manifold, is this all right to do? I'll still be leaving it connected.

Thanx

The manifold is easy to change really. Get Fel-Pro gaskets. You will have to remove the distributor, just mark it good adn you won't have any problems. Instead of relocating the heater valve, I removed it. I just capped off the pipe the opening on the top of that metal pipe that runs along the passenger side near the manifold, and ran a hose from the manifold's heater hose output to the heater's input. It worked pefectly and there's less garbadge in the way now. You also have to cap off that vaccuum line, no biggie.

What is the connection that both hoses run to that has that little hose/wire running from it? I thought it ran to the temp quage on the dash

The controls work exactly like they did before.

Pukka, that's the heater control valve. the line running from it is a vaccuum line, it controls the valve itself. If you remove the valve, you have to plug the line or you'll have a vaccuum leak whenever you turn the heater on. I just cut mine really short and used a lighter to melt the end closed, pinching it with a pair of pliers. I've had no advers effects, most cars built earlier had it setup without the valve, I just looked at how the heater hoses were on my Suburban and copied that.
The control valve opened and closed to control the coolant flow into the heater core. When the valve is closed, no coolant goes throught the heater core at all,it just circulates back into the radiator, when it's opened it flows through it.

Should I make a tech article about this?
I'm making one right now on how to swap one of these manifolds on, mabye I'll just includ this with it.

Good tip Duke. Do you happen to have a pic of what you did?

I will have a pic soon. I don't have a digital camera, so I have to scan the pictures, which are still on film, which hasn't been used up, so I'll have it soon with the manifold tech articles.

I want to do this heater valve delete thing soon. Will this make the car hotter inside? Can I delete the heater valve and still not have coolant going throught the heater? Then hookup the heater again in the fall?

I've got the heater valve removed. I ran a 7 inch hose from the intake to the heatercore on the firewall, then capped the metal heater hose line that runs along the passenger exhaust manifold. The heater works fine and I haven't noticed any extra heat coming into the car.

It's one of those "HELP" items in the cooling section at Autozone, and comes in a package of 2 for 1.49. They had about 4 different sizes and the one I chose is the largest they one, fits pretty good.
