I was gonna post this on snflu's post re spacers but it may be a different subject. Anyway, I got 300 miles on the new 350 and it has been doing great. Today I noticed that with the new manifold, my air cleaner was rubbing slightly on the hood so I decided to remove the 1/2" spacer.
The car ran like s*** seemed to miss, load up etc and surged at idle from 500 to 1500 RPM.after about 10 miles the idle came back
and it ran ok. Did the computer adjust to this change?.
How could the spacer make this difference?
Did I do something else? Could it be the TPS
got out of adjustment?
My GM tech friends couldn't figure it out and thought for sure I had a vaccum leak but we checked and all was fine. It also seemed to lose a lot of torque off idle.
I put the spacer back on and it definitly idles more consistent and has better off idle torque but I can't believe just removing the spacer could cause all that problem.
Is there another explanation than just the spacer? Sure appreciate any thoughts you all may have..........bob

Something isn't right, a spacer should do next to NOTHING. I've asked before about spacers and they're used only to fine tune an engine. The real plus is the heat shield, nothing more. Check for vacuum leaks and everything else, sounds like you have some serious problems.
