Is the stock intake even worth messing with?

I've heard of guys boring out their stock intake throttle bores (to facilitate use of 454 TB) and porting them, and was wondering if this was even worth it? I know that most people recommend a carb intake with the Holley spacer, but I am afraid of not getting the linkage to hook up properly. Can the stock intake perform just as well if ported properly? Thanks guys.

if you don't have the cash for an edelbrock intake to open up the holes in or a holley intake(already has the 2in bore holes) it is worth it just to help the flow. if you have money for an aftermarket intake i would suggest you invest in one.

"if you don't have the cash for an edelbrock intake to open up the holes in "

What do you mean by that? That you can bore out the edelbrock intake? I thought you couldn't.

i think that he means that you can by an edelerbrock intake that is already bigger so you do not have to port it

The edelbrock is 1 11/16, not 2". Tim said it right, he was talking about getting the Holley projection intake. That has the 2" bore for the holley 670 TB unit. I would have gone with that intake if I hadn't had the vortec heads. You should really think about the holley intake, it's really good and setup for everything, including EGR. I wouldn't worry about the throttle linkage, that is the "fun" part about doing engine work. Heck, I have a zip tie right now holding my throttle to my linkage! Not the safest thing in the world but I check it ALL the time and it's been fine. I have the edelbrock RPM with holley adaptor.
What engine are you going to put the 2" unit on? If it's a 305 with anything less than 300hp I don't sugest it. The stock unit can be made to flow well (~550cfm) and even right now my friend is running a 327 370hp monster with a 600cfm double pumper! Runs high 12's so realistcally the 2" unit isn't worth the effort. I have the unit but I also have 45 more cubes than most and it just happened to come with the 65# injectors I needed . Long live TBI!!!

I would be putting the 2" unit on a 350 that is currently sitting in my car. I swapped it in a few months back, had hell with a TPI swap (Long story), so I decided to stick with TBI. Anyways, I ordered 80# injectors by mistake, so I need the 65#. I already have the Edelbrock TBI intake, which I got because it seemed the most user-friendly. Now I'm regretting my decision in case I want to upgrade to a 2" bore unit. What should I do? I have all this stuff I don't need. Fortunately, it's all new, so it's returnable. To be honest, I'd rather sell it to someone here. So it's pretty much a consensus that the stock intake sucks (no pun intended), right?
