TBI 350 runs without fuel....

I've just encountered something I've never seen before. My engine will only run when I pull the fuse to the fuel pump and injectors. When I put the fuses back on the car won't start. Now, a couple of weeks ago I had set of leaking injectors so they were leaking down into the throttle body. I have no idea how much leaked down into the throttle body but there was gas all over the intake manifold. I pulled the plugs and they were obviously fouled so I've replaced them as well as the leaking injectors. I did all that and the car wouldn't start. Everything is bone dry now, no fuel leaks of any kind. So I pulled the fuses to clear the cylinders and the car started right up. It was weird to watch the engine run(very lean)without fuel spraying down into the throttle body. I ran it like that for several minutes and it never turned off. When I push down on the accelerator pedal I hear it suck air but wants to die. Is it possible that there's still gas sitting inside the manifold? Do I need to run the engine until it turns off? It runs extremely lean in this state and I'm afraid to ruin my engine running it like that. I know this is a long post but I'm stumped on this one. If anyone has any ideas about what else might be going on please chime in. I'm not sure what to do about this one. Any and/or information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Gene

yes, i have seen this happen.
if your certain no fuel is getting into the motor from the injectors or pressure regulator, get your drain pan out, the crank case has raw gas in it. pull the oil cap, the drain plug & oil filter & leave them off over night to let it drain as much as possible & also to air it out. it probably wouldn't hurt to pour a little fresh oil into the motor while you have the drain plug out to help flush more old oil out.
the reason for it running with the injectors & fuel pump shut down is its pulling enough fuel from the crank case through the pcv & breather hose.
i don't recommend running the motor with the old oil as the gas will greatly thin out the oil & can damage the motor.

Thanks a bunch for the info and the help. I'll get to it this weekend and hopefully get the problem solved by Sunday. Thanks again.
