dead in the street
dead in the street
I recently experienced a problem with my 82 trans am crossfire injection. When I was running around yesterday in 100 degree heat, I experienced no power what-so-ever while on the freeway. I would have to feather it while in transit. I got off the freeway which made it worse. I had to feather it more to keep it alive. It died on my 4 time or so. When my dad and I got home, we thought it was overheating, but the thermo was reading 160 with a 160 thermo in it.
We talked to the Pontiac dealer and asked him. Right off the back he told me it was the TPS, but we thought it was the fuel pump going out.
We did some tests to see if the fuel pump was actually working, and it failed. So after many disputes, we went with the Pontiac dealers idea and purchased a TPS.
We installed it and cleared all the codes out. While idling for about a minute or so, no troubleshooting codes came up and the car seemed to be running smooth. I drove the TA around for about 10 minutes and no problems. No loss of power or fuel as it seemed.
When I left the house to go home, I got the "CHECK ENGINE" light about 80% of the time while in transit. I stopped while fueling up and ran the diagnostic. It gave me the "4 pause 3" code I believe it was.
*now keep in mind, I would get this code about once a week*
I decided to take it home and see what it does. It never overheated and no loss of power what so ever. It was like the problem was never there.
If anyone out there can give me any ideas on what I can do or what you THINK is the problem, I am open to any advise. Thanks

hey man im gonna put it to u straight,
the cfi does this alot and it always will so
get used to it. what u got to do is pull the trerminals
of the battery for a few minutes and then drive it till it
does it again.every morning my car does this and another thing i found that works is when the check engine light coems on
with in 10 seconds of running i turn the car off and start it and as soon as it starts i hit the gas to about 3k rpms a couple of times and u knwo what it works everytime. so it this happens again pull over immediatly and turn the car off and start it and rev it up and then it will be ok!
i have had 2 rough but enjoyable years with my cfi!
