Guys I HAVE A PROBLEM!!!

Alright, I have my engine 305TBI and it runs great except for the fact I can't pass inspection for Visible Smoke. I found a complete 350TPI L98 from a 1991 Camaro for 600. Everything. My father wont let me get a more powerful engine. Its horrible, I told him it was not worh it to put 300 dollars to fix the 305. If I can't get him to let me get the 350, Would new heads fix the problem and if I get Aluminum Vette Heads Will I gain HP and would I need to Change anything else, or just swap the heads and its a done deal. Please guys HELP IS NEED!! what should I do as for MODS!! Thanks

Well it would hopefully fix the problem but it its your rings or something other then the guides/seals in the heads then it wouldn't be as easy as slapping on new heads. 600 for a TPI 350 is a good price in my opion as long as the motor is rebuildable. Hell TPI systems can sell for 500 complete around here from time to time, usually though they are more like 300. I'd say go for it!

Pull the valve covers off and check for deposits in the oil return gallies. There is one in the front of the head and one towards the rear. When mine were plugged, it would smoke like CRAZY if it sat ideling more that 3 minutes. I cleaned them out with a pipe cleaner and she hasn't blown smoke since. Unless you have a ton of miles, I would bet your rings are fine.
Do a compression check to see after you check under the valve covers.

The mechanic who told me about this said that it is a pretty common problem.
