What is this stuff?

Well, my engine is covered in tons of stuff. I havn't done anything except routine maintenance to the engine. I am still debating adding headers to my car, but there is little room for it. What are all the hoses on the passenger side for? The ones above the valve cover? I have seen other cars without this and I want to know if I need it or not. One other thing, how much of a difference does the emitions stuff make? I mean, how much does it clean up the exhaust from our cars?
If anyone can give me a description of removing this stuff, I would appriciate it. I don't want to screw anything up and have to put it all back. Thanks for the help.

Those are heater tubes i think. If you dont put those on then you will not have heat in your car. You dont have to remove them. The smog pump is not that big of a deal. You can keep all of this and use headers easily. I got edlebrock TES headers. You jsut have to take a few things off, then the headers go in then you put it all back together. Its not that hard and they are definately worth it.

89 camaro 305 tbi, flomaster 3 chamber cat back, gutted cat, Edlebrock TES Headers, Exhaust cutout, Edlebrock open element, 160 degree T-stat, and a Stage 2 FastChip.

2 kicker comp 12"'s, polk for the rest. Phoenix gold xs2300 to subs, kicker impulse 404XI to 4 speakers, pioneer DEH- P7000R head unit, and finally a 12 disc changer. Full leather interior from http://www.MrMikes.com

wrong. All that stuff is so that coolant isn't always flowing through your heater core. you can remove all that stuff, run 2 lines and you have a heater still.
