160* TBI that is. Just wondering since that is what I have and hoping that is the problem.

89 camaro 305 tbi, flomaster 3 chamber cat back, gutted cat, Edlebrock TES Headers, Exhaust cutout, Edlebrock open element, 160 degree T-stat, and a Stage 2 FastChip.

2 kicker comp 12"'s, polk for the rest. Phoenix gold xs2300 to subs, kicker impulse 404XI to 4 speakers, pioneer DEH- P7000R head unit, and finally a 12 disc changer. Full leather interior from http://www.MrMikes.com

I got much better throttle response and even better gas mileage when I switched from a 160 to a 180 thermo.

rally it isnt unbeliveable. If he has a 15. gallon tank that would turn out to be around 29 miles to the gallon

im not making it up, i was just estimating, i filled it up, clicked my little mile logger thingie, and drove from charleston area down around daytona (enterprise), i got lost a couple times and drove about 420miles (almost all in 5th gear, which on my car runs around 3150-3200 rpm at around 80mph, when i arrived i was a lil over empty, not quite though, on the way back it only took me like 370miles (i took a better route plus didnt get lost), filled up right before i left, and when i arrived i had between 1/4th a empty bout half way left, so, im just guessin here on the accuracy of my fuel needle thing, lol. btw, my city driving gas mileage, now... that's another story! ugh.

also, my car temp reads my engine is usually real cool, my funtional hood scoop, electric fan, and 160 stat keep it pretty cooled off, not sure if thats a good thing to an extent, but the temp gauge is usually somewhere between the first line mark (not sure what it was) and the middle 220 mark.... its usally a good distance from 220 though.

The thermostat has a good deal to do with throttle response. I know when I had my 160 in the engine was running very rich and that made it very sluggish at lower RPM's, the 180 cured that pretty easily.

Edin, you have a t-5 I assume. Why are the RPM's that high at 80 mph? Is that common for all t-5's? I have no idea. I have an auto and at 80 mph my RPM's are still around 1900.

sounds liek 180 would be better for me, but I have a stage 2 fastchip and it says to use a 160 t-stat with it, what should I do?

I'm not sure what the temperature is, but if the engine does not reach it the computer will think the engine is not warmed up and it will keep it in a (choke) mode till it warms up, but it never does, it may help power some but the gas mileage will suffer, I have a 180 degree in mine and it gets good mileage 17 MPG was the worst it ever got and 32 MPG was the best.

hey rally, if your not aware the tstat has allot to do, because it keeps your car temp at a certain amount, and without it, it messes up you mix in turn, and if you run rich, bad mileage, bad response,

all.in conjuction, with the tstat.
dont get 160 'less u have a chip designed, or a 'hypertech' switch which enables the fan to turn on earlier and cool down.
i think stock its set 220? and the fan makes it kik on earlier.. hope i helped.

I believe the stock fan setting is like 237. Ya its hot!! Last year my fan switch came on at 220 and i kinda like that. Well it went out so i got a new fan switch and now it kicks on about 237. I went back to the place that installed it for me and he said thats stock. I miss it coming on at 220. Ive looked at other fan switches and all i can find is on at 200 and off at 185. Wish i could find one where it kicks on at 220.

Look in a JCWhit catalog for adjustable fan switchs.

what do u guys suggest for heads, cam, intake, and carb i use? on a budget kinda but any suggestions would be good! do i have to switch out the computers too? how do i do that!

Thanks i seen than...but like i said above..i wish i could find one that kicked on at 220. I know 200 isnt bad and if i cant find anything else thats what i will have to go with. I hate the sound of the fan and i think 200 it will be on a lot.
