Resistor?

I have seen mention of the resistor to fool the computer on the actual incoming air temp but not whether it just plugged in the socket or if you paralled it on the socket and plugged it back in the sensor or series it in one side to the sensor . This may sound like a dumb question but I want to get it right the first time. Also this is on a 91 rs tbi so what is the correct value, also I assume being low current draw wattage of resistor is not critical. Thank You.

5.7 kilohm is what your looking for...just insert the wire into the 2 outlets of the IAT sensors harness...ecm will read 53 degrees F all the time

want a differnt temp reading?
go here.

my opinion. might as well let your engine know what temp the air really is, that sensor is there for a reason, and its not just emissions. doing the resistor trick, and i say trick, is a bandaid to fixing prom settings.

your gains of doing this arent going to be very much at all, and im sure your milage will suffer. but, if you are looking to squeeze out some performance, go for it, its not going to break anything on your engine or anything like that.

just my opinion.
ill get that chart up on the open el, install page too for you all soon.

I have done some mods, ram air timing free flow exhaust etc. and it shows a lean reading on my air fuel ratio guage thought this might help? What do you think?

The resistor tricks the ecm into thinking the air temp is denser so it adds more fuel. I don't know how well it works but I've heard people saying it helps after doing a few mods to a speed density setup. The only thing I could find in the Tunercat is the starting air:fuel ratio. That was the only table that actually looked at the MAT (manifold air temp or intake air temp).
If you want to add some more fuel to the system then do the resistor trick.

I have made many 1/4 runs in my RS and have tried all of the resisters etc. My fastest times where with these settings:

680 olm resist. in coolent temp senser
timing @6 degrees w/ octance boost
unplug 02 senser

The IAS resister actually made me run a little slower. Just make sure to use 25 watt resisters that are fire proof b/c normal cheap resister values change with different temps. Also if your ignition system can't burn all the gas, it will not help at all to increase the fuel out put...just a thought.
