That sounds ominously like a blown head gaket. The white smoke was your coolant being blown out the pipes, and the reason it stopped is the coolant level dropped. Check your coolant, if it's milky or sludgy that's the oil in it. If that's the case, you'll need to replace the head gaskets.

might be carbon buildup ... but sounds off that it would just start happening one day out of nowhere ... check your oil too and make sure there is no water in the oil.

just changed the oil and it had no water in it my friends dad said that its probably the valve seals or whatever are worn out and letting oil ontop of the pistons then burning of does that sound right

The only thing that causes white smoke is water/coolant getting burned off. Oil generates a blueish gray smoke and simple bad combustion is black smoke. When you say white smoke, is it really white, like steam, or is it grayer?

What does the smoke smell like? If it smells like coolant then plan on replacing a gasket.

in my first engine it had bad vavle stem seals witch caused white smoke to blow out the exhaust when you hit the gas beyond a quarter of the way down.. the only other thing is the either headgasket or piston rings.

Does it smell sweet? If so it's coolant. The only way I can think to explain how burning oil smells is you can put a drop (just one little drop) of oil on hot exhaust manifolds, and take a whiff. It only takes very small amounts of oil to smoke up a whole lot.
