Does anybody know what RS stands for?

I just got back from the track and did a scorching 16.829 at 81.22mph. in my 91RS. I think I figured out what the RS stands for (Real Slow). At least I improved my times from a 17.363. A half second is not to bad to be my first time on a real track. I even improved my reaction time from a 1.276 to a .831 seconds, still leaves room for improvement don't ya think. If I were to do the ultimate tbi mods do you think I could break into the 16.5's? Can't wait to get my 350 togeather and installed.

Here's the brakedown on the time slip:

60ft ---- 2.359
330ft ---- 6.972
et@594ft ---- 10.84
1/8 et ---- 10.779
1/8 mph ---- 64.74
1/4 et ---- 16.829
1/4 mph ---- 81.22

Steve

With gears and posi the stock 305 AT or MT should run high 15's. That is if you have an open element, the ultimate TBI mods, some good tread like slicks (for low 60'), and maybe a cat-back exhaust. I don't think the exhaust is much if anything. Definatly get gears and posi before you just through in a 350. I'm glad I did the engine swap but I can't get any traction so it's kind of pointless.

Your numbers are quite similar to mine actually. Here's what i ran about a month ago, but also keep in mind i drove the car 96 miles up to the track ant the home and all runs were made with the engine at about 230 degrees. I wish i had time to let the engine cool! I only had time to even make 3 passes before the track closed.

Best overall Run:

R/T = 1.199 (wake up Dave! hey its was my 2nd run at a track ever in my life ok...)
60 = 2.358
1/8 = 10.752
1/4 = 16.807
@ = 80.98

Best Individual #'s (not from the same runs)

R/T .762 (3rd run)
60 2.358 (2nd)
1/8 10.752(2nd)
1/4 16.807(2nd)
@ 81.04 (3rd)

Also keep in mind, 3/4 take of gas, spare tire and jack in the car along with my freind Mike (aka Cam89RS on the board) in the passenger seat. I found it launched best stalling it to about 1100, even with my crappy *** tires i didn't have any problem with traction though, just a quick 2 second powerbrake to clean off dust and water. Thats my only gripe about Cordova Drag park, you can't get around the water!

geeze check your radiator cap and get a new thermostat. I don't even like mine getting over 220. Get a 180 or below thermostat

81 mph isnt that bad, eh? My previous best was 16.400 @ 80.40. Just tuned with rapid fires and accel wires. Granted I just cut a great 60' for the time, I usually only run 82 MPH (the rear is not installed yet... so Im still 2.73 open). My best time is 16.38 @ 83.xx with the cat-back... I found out the hard way that 3" is just too big. Oh well, like you say Pablo, get the air out before you get the air in

JP, I do have everything I need to do the swap. From the headers to the areo chamber muffler and 3"s in between. I was originaly just drop in the 350vortec out of a 96 yukon but after taking the heads off I decided to put in new pistons, cam, and pocket port the heads. I'll be topping it off with a rpm air gap and a 454tb with 350 injectors. I'll be calling on you for advice when it comes time to burn some chips then it's time to burn some rubber.

Oh, did I forget to mention that it was in the 80's with about 90% humidity. Don't know the elevation but I don't think this was a factor. This fall on a cool crisp nite I'll have to try again and see if the times come down.

80 mph is about right?!? Wow. I never ran mine at the track till I got the headers, the rest of the exhaust and the open element done, and I trapped at 92 mph. Hard to believe that those few mods are worth 12 mph...

Steve,

I suppoe in your case it means "Rather Surprised". My TPI/TA only does 88 in the ¼, with a full tank, spare tire, and 2.77 axle pretty much bone stock.

At least it doesn't mean "Really Stupid", as several of the Dorf guys would presume.

- Really Slow
- Really ****"e"
or when on the highway....Ramming Speed

Once I get the 350 in it will mean Real Showoff. I'm also going to baseline my stock 86 iroc that has the tpi setup. The only mods are a homemad air foil, Jacobs ign, and a hole in the exshaust pipe right where it inters the muffler. I'll be using my hoosier autocross tires on the back hoping to eliminate as much wheel spin as possible. I hope this thing is at least a full second quicker.

You're running 92 MPH traps with full exhaust and an open element? What track are you running at? I'll drive quite a ways to pull that kind of speed with my RS

I guess Norwalk must just be slow or something...
