need opinions

I recently got a '91 Firebird 305 V8 (TBI) and wanted to give it some more power. I was told the only worth while thing to do was to put in a 350 V8, which, if thats the case, I can't afford to do until next summer. I just wanted some input on what I can do to give it more power. The best things to add or change or whatever, in your opinions. Thanx.

This question gets asked all the time on this board. You can keep the 305 and do some mods that will help. The biggest problem with the 305 is breathing and exhaust. I would start with the exhaust. The cheapest would be a catback 2 1/2" to 3" system with a flowmaster mufler. If you want headers, the SLP's are the best, they are more expensive, but are made of stainless steel.

K&N filter, weather you are using the existing air cleaner or an open air cleaner.

Heads, get rid of those restrictive heads. World products makes a affordable iron head, the SR/Torquer, made for the 305.

The LT-1 cam is a popular choice on this board. If you replace your cam, make sure you get a Hydrollic Roller cam. That is what is in your car now. A 112 lobe center works well with the computer.

Check out the Tech Article on the Ultimate TBI, you'll want read that information.

If you plan to eventually put a 350 into your car, then I would be more cautious how much I spend on the 305. With a 350 you get alot more bang for the same dollar. In the end, no matter what people advise you on, you have to be happy with what you decide (305 or 350).

I am currently planning a swap to a 350 and that is why in my signiture you don't any mods to the engine. I am trying to get everything else in place before doing the swap.

That is a very fast response, hope that helps.
