Will it be worth it? what can i expect?
Will it be worth it? what can i expect?
I'm looking to start adding power to my ride.(88 305 tbi, auto)
Here is what i did:
K+N filter
Cat Back exhaust.
I was thinking of:
headers and new high flow cat.
ram air intake or open element
new camshaft (maybe) with new prom
all new plugs and wires
Can someone tell me the "best" brands for the things i want to add. i was thinking of an MSD ignition box. what will this do for me?
Thanks,
Chris j

The MSD will do nothing for you. Trust me when I tell you that the new ignition isn't what it's cracked up to be. The OEM has a longer burn and doesn't require the MSD "multi sparks". Don't get me wrong, some cases the MSD box is nice...like for a rev limiter but other than that I don't see the point unless you have an extra $150 burning a hole in your pocket AND are running a far from stock engine.
The exhaust work is good thinking but gears and posi can also make a big difference. The gears might cost you more but they're by far my favorite mod to the car right behind the 350 swap of course.

I agree with Jon. You may want to get a MDS Blaster Coil though. $38 for a little extra fire power. Put the rest of that money towards a set of Vortec heads and have them shaved .045 and with your other mods that 305 will wake up from its coma. Also make sure and get your headers and exhaust for a TPI single cat car instead of a TBI car that way you can get the full 3" exhaust instead of 2.5".

I have had 3:73's and 3:42's. Personally, go with whatever u want between those 2. I liked them both but if u want more streety, go with 3:42's just because of gas will be a little better with 3:42's. Need all the gas savers u can get with these prices. Know what I mean?

Can i find 3.42's on a junkyard car?
I was reading in a mag., in which they are building up a Third gen camaro, that they got a 3.42 rear out of an older SUV because the car had a v6 and it needed a little help off the line. (street light to street light)

If your talking about CHP they got 3.73's off a mid 80's Blazer I believe.
