LG4
I have an 85 camaro with the LG4 in it I looked at the specs and it only has 155 hp is it just a crappy 305 or just need a little work?
Re: LG4
Well, it's certainly the bargain-basement V8 of it's day. Not to say they don't have potential, but here are the primary restrictions:
1. Really pathetically small cam. The cam in the 305 HO (L69) is a fire-breather by comparison. Even a mild performance cam would be lightyears ahead of the stock cam.
2. The whole exaust stinks. Tiny manifold, tiny y-pipe and tiny little 2-1/4" exhaust all the way back. Headers and a complete 3" exhaust system is really the way to go if you want any performance potential.
3. The spark advance curve in the chip is lazy. You can bump up the timing from it's stock base setting (0*) easily to 4-6* and pick up a good bit of power, but it still doesn't address the lazy advance rate. An aftermarket "performance" chip or a stock same-year L69 chip would be an easy upgrade.
If that sounds like "minor tweaks" to you, then you're on your way. Should be pretty easy to get HP up into the low-mid 200s with those upgrades.
But this subject should probably go in the Tech/General Engine forum.
