it cuts out at random and infrequently.90% of the time it drives great. when it does act up drives me nuts. when it acts up it the car will run rough and sometimes even backfire. most of the time it only acts up when i have the cooling fan is running. i disconnected the cooling fan temp switch and i turn the fan on with the climate controls, turning the switch to a/c position operates the fan. im thinking im going to replace the TPS. i have already replaced the 02 sensor, EGR valve, coolant temp sensor, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, ignition coil, a broken connector at the fuel injector. i checked the fuel injector resistance, they were 1.4 OHMS. how do i test the TPS for proper operation. im getting very confused and i dont know how to make this car run properly 100% of the time. i backfired so bad once that it almost blew up the muffler. the muffler housing is all distorted and out of shape. i want to get a performance exhuast for my car but dont want to spend all of that money and have it blow up a new muffler. any ideas. please help.

 

i have a hard time believing that my car is the only third gen TBI camaro to have this problem. i have already spent alot of time and money working on this problem and i fail to come up with a solution. i would like some advice on fixing it for good.

 

It sounds like an ignition problem or power distribution issue. What does the tach do when the car does this?

 

tach goes wild, crazy. it jumps all over the place. what do i do to fix it? i dont really want to pay somebody 60 bucks an hour to look at it. if i had to i would but i dont like anybody touching my car except for me and my stepfather. i also dont want to leave anywhere overnight. ignition system had been gone through. the only thing thats original is the dist itself. the cap and rotor where replaced along with a new coil. i'm going to try another altenator soon. the thing that gets me is that the car doesnt do it all of the time.
