DROP/NON-DROP BASE OPEN ELEMENT
Which is better, a drop or non-drop base element? Also, I bought a K&N air filter to fit my stock air cleaner, will that fit under a 14x3 open element or not. Another question is, what to do about the black metal hose that connects to the stock air cleaner with the filter inside the air cleaner. Thanx for the help.

stock k&n is way too small for a 14x3 open element.

Am I correct that leaving the breather (small black hose with filter coming from the passenger's side valve cover, in my previous juvenile remark) is harmless as well as removing it completely and/or getting an aftermarket filter to plug it? Also, in regards to the coil wires-is that the wires in the TBI or under it or what exactly. Sorry for the lack of knowledge questions-just don't want to screw up the ride. Thanx.

get a non drop base, follow the directions on the tech article. there is a hose coming from the front of the tbi to the stock cleaner, remove it from the cleaner and stick a screw in it to plug it. the wires are the plug wires, the shouldn't be smashed under the cleaner, if they are, simply angle them out of the way, and don't let them rub each other. and the stock K&N, kiss it good bye, you have to buy another for the OE.
