I'd say for a camaro, a lightweight cowl hood with a Open element sealed to it would be the best. No hot air could get to it that way.

I had opted for the L69 intake.. It does give me more air.. since I don't drag race or anything, I was not to concerned if it was still a bit restrictive. I like the way it looks too.

Get the L69 set up and run AC ducting to your high beams. Delete them and use the casings and put a screen over them, use that for a custom ram-air intake.

I've got an extra L69 dual sitting at home. I hope to eventually do a custom cold air setup with an extream lid and a sealed off cowl hood.

The L69 is a much better choice than the open element if you can get your hands on one. It flows more than enough for just about any motor the a TBI will support, plus it supplies cold air. As previously stated an open element and a cowl hood would be the best, but very costly.

I live in the Florida Keys, one junk yard in my whole area, on Big Pine Key. I asked the kid if he had a dual snorkle. He said yes, he had one for $40. Imagine that, the only junk yard around had one and cheap. Check the boneyards and ask the guys at the counter, they may have them stashed to keep them safe from thieves.
They also appear on the forsale boards but usually at PREMIUM prices!.
I agree, Cold air is better than hot air.

I opted for an open element. It makes the engine look like a mix of old and new school. The other reason is that it cost me less than $20 for it and the filter from Summit. I also went with a 160* stat to help lower engine temps and got great response from the motor. However, if you plan on driving it this winter, put in a 180* and that would help a lot with the temp of the hot air going in.

Even though I agree cold is better than hot, you aren't really going to experience a big difference in performance especially for the premium you pay for the dual snorkle.

Realistically, to start, I say go with the open element, and the thermostat and see how you like the evil hiss , and the great jump in throttle response.
