is warm-up necessary

Hello,
every morning when I start up my car it has to idle for a good 5 min at 1500 rpm before the idle drops to a drivable level (once the engine warms). I've talked to other people about it and aparently has something to with the absense of the AIR injection into the exhaust manifold since the car has no emissions equipment anymore. The extra fuel is nolonger compensated for before it reaches the o2 sensor at cold start so the throttle bodies are opening up more. My question is can I trick the computer into thinking the engine is always warm? therefore operating at closed loop all the time. Will this hurt the engine? I have a 1982 trans am with crossfire injection. I've heard that a resistor inplace of the temp sensor would work for a tpi, but im not sure the same principle will work and what value the resistor should be. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Aaron

unless you end up stalling, just drive it to warm up it.

the emissions equipment on the exhaust is only there to warm up the catalytic convertor into it's operating range.
your engines warm up cycle will run until the ecm sees the water temp that it wants.
no real way to speed that up unless you drive the car or cover the radiator so that the heat can't escape.

Its always a good idea to let the engine warm up for at least a minute, longer when its cold or the car was sitting for a long time.

I just let mine run for about 10 to 20 seconds to make sure the oil has been sqirted everywhere.

Don't worry about the 1500 idle, that's normal, it has nothing to do with the emissions equipment being removed.
