Couple of questions
I recently bought a beat up, not running 92 camaro RS with the 305 TBI. This is my second 3rd gen. After about a month of owning it, I finally got to drive it and I loved it. I now plan on keeping instead of flipping it.
I've read the stickys and learn o' so much, but I still have a couple questions.
I've notice that the only cam mentioned is the LT1 cam. Is that the only cam that can fit in the TBI? Also, is there any difference between vette cams and f-body cams? (I'd assume the vette has the better cam, but I've been wrong before.)
What kind of heads should be match with the LT1 cam? The stickys say that the stock heads suck, but is it possible to port them, change the spring and the rocker arms and get some noticable gains? Or, should they just be used as a paper weight?
Thanks for the help guys! I plan on getting a headers back exhast system and deffintly a new intake but I get the car registered.

Congratulations on bringing another 3rd gen back to life. I think the answer that you are looking for may be already known to you.
First – read and understand TBI stickies. They are a treasure trove of information which has been compiled over the years. They are well worth the read!
Second - look, you have 305 TBI powered ’92 RS. If you are planning to keep it street legal and be able to pass what ever emission testing that may be required in your state cam selections maybe limited. Now, the best way to improve engine performance is to improve its volumetric efficiency through careful improvements of its intake, exhaust and combustion chambers. Since we are dealing with a TBI induction larger duration cams will not work very well. Thus, large duration cams typically do not work very well with SD systems. Again, it is a generalization and there are examples running well with larger cams. However, you should always ask yourself what is your final goal and not to forget how big is your wallet!
Third – for near stock 305 TBI with improved exhaust system (headers, free flowing CAT, after cat system), some mild porting of the stock heads and an after market intake (you decided which one) can net you some substantial performance gains. The biggest bang would be after market aluminum heads and matching camshaft. Generally, from what I have observed TBI does not like long duration cams so to be safe, with near factory ECM tune stay below 214 duration at 0.050 with LSA of about 112 deg. For LT1 cam (and really any 305 cam mods) information see:

But again – what is your budget and final goals – just be real!
