I was wondering if it was necessary to use the MSD 6AL if our cars/trucks already have a built in rev limiter?

if you already have a rev limiter the 6al will only give you a choosable range on where you want to limit at, 6a would most likely be your ticket to great spark, i have the 6AL in my 88 firebird, and i absolutly love it, it makes my car run much better, and 6a does the same, but it doesnt have the limiter thats it!!!

Save your money, unless you are reving past 6000 rpm's it will do you no good.Yeah, yeah, I've heard all the wonder stories about what it can do, but the truth is unless you have 12.5 to 1 or higher anything will light your spark. It's when cylinder pressures reach great hights that you need something hotter to the fire the plugs.
Believe it or not!!!
Oh, if you want a rev limiter get in to burnning your own proms.

I dunno, I definitley noticed better mid range RPM pick up with the MSD 6A and 8.5mm wires over the shot to hell stock ones

Do yourself a favor get rid of those wires and get yourself a set of Borg-Warner Nascar Select 8mm. If you grab on to one of those MSD wires it will knock you on you on your you-know-what, imagine how much energy you must be losing with the wires laying all over the metal engine if it will shock you like that. The resistance of one of those is about 8k-10,000 ohms The Borg Warners about 1.5k-2000 ohms. And that's one you can test for yourself, try it. <font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by BahamutRS:

Dan, where is the rev limiter in a TBI ecm
We don't have one. Oh yeah, and I've heard the GM rev limiter is pretty nasty as far as how it goes about limiting the rpms.
MSD is great if you have a high performance vehicle but it can also help on a lower compression car. You can increase gap and that's a good thing. I agree though, don't waste your money on an MSD box, money better spent towards a larger coil, better wires, and a nice stereo system

Uh, your right Jon, it's just a speed limiter. Sorry, my Bad.
