Knock sensor is in the lower block. I'd say temp sensor.

Of course you can. Sounds like your fan temp switch.

there are 2 things that go into the heads one has a connetor that you slide in, the other looks like a mushroom, on mine the one that looked like the mushroom was blue and went on the pasenger side. it was called a engine coolant temperaure senor, it cost me 25$ i think, but my old one had a hole in it and my new one didnt, what i did was cut the plg were it was round, and that slind in just fine. hope this helps

hey you might wanna triple double check that. if it is inbetween the 6 and the 8 cyl, it is the fan switch and i dont think a temp sensor will work. fan switch grounds the line when gets to a point of temp its set at and collent does not, you might wanna check if fan still comes on.

it will not work then or "corectly" work

the only temp senors are one the intake manifold and on the drivers side of the block, between 1 and 3

It's your fan switch. I did the same thing installing my headers. If you can, get a lower temp fan switch, if not, stock replacement at Pep Boys, Autozone, or local parts shop will do the trick

Glad to know I'm not the only one who did that, lol.

Yes it can be driven. One of the first things that I do when I get one of these cars is to take that wire off and connect it to a toggle switch and mount it on the dash for manual fan control. Just run the sensor wire to one side of the switch and the other side of the switch to ground and you're in control.
If you are the forgetful type you also have two options.
One: you can wire a pilot light in series with the switch so that you can remember when it's on.
Two: you can buy another switch that will come on and go off at whatever temps you wish. The factory settings are way too high and this in conjunction with a 180 degree or whatever thermostat will help.

its defintely a fan switch, and if you have about $50 , you can get a Hypertech fan switch there are 2 types, on that turns on a 185 ,and cools to 166, and then there's one that turns on at 200 and cools to 185, i have the 185/166 degrees, and i run a 160 stat, and my engine runs great, not to mention your car will never see anything higher then 185, this maybe more expensive them wiring a switch but in the long run it as simple as changing a spark plug, and remeber have a drain pan, coolant will rush out as soon as you pull it out, i garuntee this will be the best $50 you've ever spent for your SB chevy motor, also this as a hint when you run cooler wear and tear is also reduced
