I have a TBI short block that i am trying to use parts from. I have one of the heads off and i can't seem to see any kind of obstruction that looks like it could be the infamous swirl port. Does anyone have a pic of this? I was going to use them on my TPI engine but i recently found out about this.

You can't see the swirled port unless you take out one of the intake valves.

I looks like an arial view of a Tornado Slide that you see at the local parks, or even at water parks.

If I knew how to post pics on here then I would post one for you. Sorry

Thanks Tas. I've been looking for that.
I guess I'll have to bookmark it.

Omega,

I'll take a pic and post it here tomorrow. I'm surprised that Vader hasn't posted one already. He has a pic for everything!!!! He probably even has one of him whiping his own butt. And no, that's not a hint to post one Vader!!!!!

Pic no workie

I guess they don't like to host pics. No problem, i just cut and paste.

Is the curved lit up section the swirl casting? It doesn't look like much... that little thing is what makes the 187 heads so bad? Wow.

Thanks for the pic AJ

Well the little lip that you are seeing is closer to you than the rest of the port.

Pretend that you are a bird looking over one of those tornado slides at the park. The slide spins counter clockwise in this pic.

If I had a camera that wasn't so cheap (it was free) then you would be able to see it better.

I don't thing the swirl in the port is what makes these heads bad. It's the small intake runners and weak casting that makes them bad. Well not bad, just not good for performance.

Actually I ported a set of 193's(350 swirl ports) and gained 40 hp to the rear wheels.
Not too bad for a no good set of heads!
