there is a little thing that i put together this morning about the differences between the performer and the performer rpm air gap intakes.

there are a bunch of pictures, so if you have a slow connection, sorry.

i have some good pics of teh new intake, and some installation pics. i only got as far as the adaptor plate though, so no pics with the throttle body. yet.

any questions let me know.

Good pics!

I was wondering about doing the same thing as far as getting the TB to fit. The throttle body does work after that lead-in huh? That's great!

Yeah, I got a question. You said the hood closes, but you haven't installed the TB or the air cleaner. Let me know how that goes. If you get it to fit I know EXACTLY what I need to do (cough scrap holley 1" adaptor plate cough). I'll make my own like you did. Doesn't look to hard and we've got all the tools here at school.

snflupigus, I don't think it would help with oil dist. other than keeping the hot oil off the bottom of the intake runners.

Brian, is you adapter plate threaded and were you able to get a good seal between it and the manifold?

Here's mine, what do you think about these?

by the way..i didnt mention this...i know i mentioned that the hood closes, but i also said that not everything is back on. well, i test fit everything (tb, air cleaner) and it all fit. i guess technically i didnt put a throttle body gasket, so hopefully the thickness of that doesnt mess anything up .

steve..
the adaptor plate isnt threaded, so i just put the bolts through it and into the manifold. i havent tightened anything down yet so i am not positive that i will have a good seal, but i dont see why not. i had the old on on for a year with not one problem.

your looks sweet man...is that the holley adaptor? looks pretty big. any other pics of your car, or a site address?

Brian, my father and I made the adapter plate. The reason it is so thick is because I threaded it to keep from having to go to other measures or ruin a good intake untill I knew it would work out ok. Your setup looks good and I hope it runs just as well. As far as a web site well lets just say I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to designing stuff like that.

All parts in stock waiting to be added to my 91RS. 4L60 w/B&M Mega shifter, 350vortec w/ 9.4cr, combustion chambers and pistons crowns polished and coated w/techline thermal barrier coating, LT4 Hot Cam Kit, RPM Air Gap, 454TB w/350injectors, Headman shortys, 3" catback and a posi. I still need to find the rearend with the right gears, a 323 or 342 would work nicly.

Brian, what kind of clearance did you have left? Would there be enough room for a custom air box with a remote located filter. If not it was just a thought. I was thinking of pulling air from the cowl area.

steve..do you mean room above the air filter housing? (between the that and the hood)

Yeah thats what I was looking for. I think I'll be in the same boat with JP when I get this thing put in. My adater plate is about an 1/2" thick so I'm not sure if it's going to stick thru the hood or not.

i doubt i can fit ANYTHING between there. i am honestly amazed that it closes as it is. i am pretty sure that teh air cleaner housing is pushing up against the hood insulation. i think that if the insulation wasnt there then i would have a problem with the top of teh housing and the hood bracing touching.

im not sure about the geometry or whatever of any ram air setups, but if it is any higher than a regular run-of-the-mill drop base witha 3" element, i doubt it will fit too well.

Thanks for the info Brian. I may have to go with my shaker hood scoop idea.

I'm playing with a few ideas in my head right now. Might as well post them.
I'm very good at making things work but this has just wasn't ment to be. So....
1) Cut more bracing and shave the spacer ring until it fits.
2) Cut more bracing, shave the spacer and maybe mill down the adaptor plate which is 1"
3) Build custom aluminum dual snorkel intake.
4) Buy cowl hood...hmm....NOT (for $400 I could have 412hp )
5) Try and get my dual snorkel air cleaner to fit, still cutting underbracing.

I'm going to try and cut some underbracing tomorrow and see if that helps.
I think I'm going to end up doing number 5 just because I have it so why not use it. Even had a K&N with only 6K miles.
Steve, whatever you do, do NOT go with the problow. This air cleaner sucks so bad. I've gone through one foam element already after the injectors burned 2 holes! I've heard people say that it choakes their LO3 and what's worse is that mine is pressed right up against the underside of the hood. My friend back home with his 69 camaro just tried a velocity stack but it was coming too close to his hood and he felt a HUGE performance drop after 3000rpm. That's with a velocity stack and a 327 making ~370hp!
Proflow = problow
