I am new to the TBI game, help me out some!

I just sold my TPI camaro, now I am building a 1991 Firebird with the 305 TBI. That thing is a tird, slow, but runs great! My question is this: what modifications are avaiable for the TBI 305 to make me GOFASTER?

Supercharger?

Chip?

Exhaust I know!

Intake? (without changing the PROM and computer)

What is the best bang for the buck (no NOS)?

If there is a supercharger out there, how much and who makes it?

Thanks for any help!

Well, I am guessing exhaust, headers, cam, heads, high flow intake and that should give me the power I am looking for. But how hard will that be?

Supercharger anyone?

I asked a local gearhead I know about a super charger for the L03. He said it wasn't worth it due to the peanut cam in this engine. I'm saving my money to build a L05 instead.

The end resualt is more throttle response, not a race car, a good fast moving street machine.

Cam, heads, exhaust, intake and I should be moving along right nicely!

Paxton makes a supercharger for TBI cars.
about 3 grand.

Shoot for the moon and custom build a turbo 305. (I just might one day myself)

For what you'll spend on engine mods... buy a 350, it'll fit right in. No replacement for displacement also $$. Build a stroker also $$$.

NOS wet system 135HP shot 600 bucks. good cheap thrills instant 14 sec car.

How fast you want to go?? How much do you want to spend???

I am thinking about just exhaust and some gears to get me started. I want the car to look good before anything. I just did the paint job and she looks good, just needs a ram air hood and some 17" wheels.

91bird, you're site is really good. I learned quite a lot from it. I may hold off on the new engine and see what I can do with the one I have now instead. I really didn't believe there was much potential for it.

Three thousand for a supercgharger? Is it made out of gold?

Good call. TPI is crap, IMO. I think you'll find that doing ANYTHING to a TBI engine is easier.
I'd start with gears and a stall. Maybe a better intake, heads if you have the $$$.

Sounds like a good start, whats your end goal? A Blower would prolly not be the best thing, because the heads on these things are super restrictive and the cam is just puny the lobes are like the size of my freakin knuckles.

I'm just sticking with full exhuast, 3.42 rear, open el, and thats about it since i'm a college guy on a tight budget. I've heard chips can help too and after a while you'll need to raise the fuel pressure. If you wanna go all out, build a nice 350, get the holley 670 CFM t-body, and burn chips to tune it. (what i would do if i had the time, $$, and another car to drive while its being torn apart)

Hey your welcome man. Glad its helped you.

I really didn't believe there was much potential for it.
They have good potential but there is a saying that people use when they are making a decision between modding a 305 or doing the 350 (383,396,400)
"There is no replacement for displacement"
Meaning that a 350 will ALWAYS have more potential than the 305 will ever have. So usually a smarter investment is to invest in a 350 and mod what you can, throw it in and as time goes on mod it when u get more money. Your mildly modifed 350 will be faster than your fully modified 305. Just the way it works.
