327 Idea

I became incredibly bored while writing my final paper for english 1301, so I decided to dream about throwing a lot of money at the RS. Here's what I came up with, and if I can come up with the cash, I might actually do it.
350 Block
Lunati Pro Series 3.25" stroke crank
a set of nice 5.7" rods(any suggestions?)
the Lunati grind of the 302DZ cam, it has a 114LSA, and a 3000-7000rpm op. range.

I'm thinking a nice intake for a 4bbl and a TBI adapter plate. Get into some PROM burning(wouldn't be any other way to get it to run right)

AFR 195's, 1.5/1.6 roller rockers.

I'm thinking 10.5:1 compression or so. Full exhaust of course, suspension mods too boot, but I'll probably have all that stuff before i can get the cash to build the engine.

Do ya'll think i'm completely insane yet?

Anthony

stock steel cran 327s can handle 8000 RPM. That expensive crank could probably do more. Go for longer rods. 327s have thick pistons because of the short stroke. 6.0" at least would be good.

I had a 327 similar to the one you described. I have no clue what cam it had in it, but it wasn't very big at all. With ported TPI heads, a 454 TBI, all forged internals (don't know what brand, the engine came with the car!!), 1.6 rockers and LT-1 springs, it ran to 7000 just fine. Ran high 13's. I know 13's arn't very impressive, but with a little bigger cam and a better intake, 12's were possable. Wish I could give you more info, but the engine blew awhile ago when I was running nitrious and the fuel pump decided it wanted to shut off. First time I ever seen an engine throw 3 rods at the same time.

the site I got the 302 cam idea from has it listed as following:

254*/230* @ .050" and .485"/.485" with a 114* LSA.

could you even tune the computer to run with that cam? I'm starting to really like this 327 idea, but if I can't get it to run with the TBI, I might have to go buy a beater 2nd gen to toss the motor in!

the TBI computer has an RPM limit. You'd need a custom chip. I think the RPM limit is 6800 If I remember. A bit over hydraulic roller cams limit of about 6500 RPM

i'm planning on burning my own chip, right now $ is a major constraint, but I like to plan ahead. I guess my main concern is idle vaccum. the exhaust duration seems odd to me also. anyone care to shed some light?
