Yes you should be getting lots better MPG, I avg.19-21 MPG with my car, about 290-310 miles to a tank (15.5 gal.)and I have gotten 30 MPG during straight hwy. driving. Make sure your car is tuned up and replace your O2 senser if it has over 80,000 miles on it, thats when mine went out and my mileage dropped to about 14 MPG.

I usually put about 11 gals. of gas in the tank when i fill it up, and get about 210 miles to tank. Probably more than that now, since i put in a new 02 sensor tuesday, but too soon to really tell i guess.

I've been getting 200-230 miles per tank so I bought a new O2 sensor but I cant find where the friggin thing goes! I know it goes into the passenger's side manifold but nothing there remotely resembles the O2 sensor I bought! Is it hard to get to/replace in the driveway? Where exactly is it? HELP!

on mine it was on the drivers side header, im not exactky sure where it is, put it should be the only thing sticking out of your header that has a wire attached to it, it something you can do in your driveway, i just replaced mine today, and i notices a mpg change, in my favor

O2 senser is on the driver side, just under the exhaust manifold.

My 355, 13 sec, Xfired, TBI'd FBird, got 25 highway (at 55 or 75). I don't count in town use as a measure of what mileage your getting, since it's of function of stop light spacing.

You're doing the math wrong... your tank isn't completely empty when it hits the E You've probably got 5 gallons left at that moment. Look at how many gallons you have to put in to top off your tank and use that as the number of gallons, not the 16 your tank can hold. So say 11 gallons are needed to fill up... 200/11 = 18.1 MPG which is pretty typical of city driving.

AND just so nobody starts this debate again, all sources point to gas tanks ranging from 15.5-16.5 gallons, any other numbers that get thrown around are just BS.

Man, I guess I better change mine too. My 305 TBI only has 52k but the BEST gas mileage that I have gotten was 208 with premium of course. Could my sensor be out this early? Because this weekly gas trip with premium is getting costly.

My Caprice got 20.1mph once. That trip was like 95% highway driving. Of course, my car is a little heavier too. But it did get a bigger (23gallon) gas tank

Hmm 101k miles on the clock. Looks like it's time for a new O2 sensor.

Would members of this board recommend sticking with ACDelco or maybe trying another brand?

My TBI 305 92 RS got about the same 200 miles per tankful also.Maybe it's my right foot, but I haven't gotten much better than that around town.Still, it'll do 300 miles on a tank if it's all freeway travel and I'm doing 85-90 mph. This with 3.08 gears and T5 trans.

I usually put about 240-250 miles on a tank and I usually have about 1.5-2 gallons left when I tank up.

I have an 89 RS with the 305 L03, and i get about 10.7mpg, and when I don't rod around I get about 14 mpg. The most miles I've had on it were about 170 on one tank. I've allready spent about $600 in trying to fix it and get some power out of the engine, but I can't get nothin out of it.... I guess I'm going to have to rebuild the engine.

How are you doing that after about 10 gallons my car will stall on turns and braking.

Well mine gets 19-22 mpg. I've went as far as 270 on a tank of gas. And I'm calculating my mileage the right way(miles driven/gallons to fill up).

I average 22-23 in overall driving. I've seen as high as 29+ on a straight highway run,75 on cruise. It seems like 290 to 325 per tank. It may be time to look at the O2 sensor if the rest of you are having probs at the 80k mark I'm way past that.

brodyscamaro, I'm actually making a little better gas mileage than what I posted. It's more like 2.5-3 gallons left now. Not really sure why but I'm not complaining.

My car is a 91' Firebird and as far as I know the tank is baffled so it doesn't have that stalling problem, like earlier model f-bodies did. The most gas I've ever put in my car was right around 14.3 gallons or somewhere around there. I could make turns and brake without any problems.

I have a 1992, but it has an older camaro's tank. I replaced my O2 sensor and air filter and I STILL get 9.5 mpg. About half the time it runs good and the other haly my car will bog and run really rich why

I have no idea about that one. Have you ever checked out your fuel pressure to see what it's doing? Are all your sensors working correctly. Sometimes the computer is funny about certain sensors like that and will result in horrible gas mileage.

Brody,
I think if you got that gas tank from a junk yard, there is a good chance your baffle is broken inside. That is what is supposed to keep the gas from sloshing around on turns. When you run the tank low you might start sucking air into the lines because the gas sloshed to the other side of the tank. Do you hear any kind of "clunking" inside the tank when you drive with less then a quarter tank? I get 325 miles per tank in mine, and I run her till she's dry- I've coasted into the gas station more then once! - Randy

92RS, he said that his tank is from an older model camaro so there's a chance that his tank has no baffles on the inside. Not like the newer ones anyway.
