hey guys i gotta 305 tbi in my 89 camaro, i just wanted to know how hard is it to swap it out for a 350 tbi...like what else would i need besides the motor. and is it worth it? also wat if i wanna swap it to a 350 tpi? just trying to get an idea of how much power gains i can expect and what issues may arise...thanks

 

Are you located in a smog and or vehicle inspection / certification state?

You can always replace the 305tbi with a 350tbi but, you'll need to do a few other upgrades and modifications as well... there are many posts related to this topic. Just search.

IMO, it's not worth the time, trouble or expense unless you're dead set on keeping it TBI or TPI. If you're un-restricted by emmisions or inspections, consider ditching the TBI / TPI idea for a NA carb motor or perhaps the LT or LS transplant into your car.

hey thanks for the info. im in california and the smog laws are a bitch here...so thats why i wanna keep it as simple as possible. im trying to figure out if its easier to put a 350 tbi in it or should i just go 350 tpi. i just want the simplest cheapest way to upgrade that 305 tbi.

 

Chopped up your reply but, there you go! You should be able to build or purchase a nice mild mannered 350 fed with the appropriately matched TB & injectors to suit your taste. You'll also need to stick with the smog police approved exhaust systems but as far as getting it to pass visual inspection no one but you should be the wiser as to the cubic displacement of the motor. It just needs to appear to be OE. If a retro fitted TPI will pass, it should but, hopefully someone from Cali that's done what your asking will chime in. Sorry, I left Cali in 75.
