Older TBI Guys.....
My brother tells me to put 1.6 Ratio Rockers on my 1988 350 TBI, 193 heads. The motor is Stock. Exhaust isnt. Heads, 1 5/8 primary's with 3" collectors and 3" Back... The I did all the 350 Stuff to the Car, 350 TPI fuel Pump.. 350 Tbi Injectors. raised FP to 13 PSI. Lifted the injectors 1/2 inch, Lifted the Throttle Body assembly with Heat resistant Plastic... Knurled the Inside bore of the Spacer.
Will The 1.6 Ratio Rockers work with the Stock 193 heads? My brother has the rockers, But Im affraid to put them on, Im not sure if the Valve Springs will hold...
I Usually 9.3 seconds int he 1/8 mile at 73mph. Thats with an 700r4 Trans and 2:73 Rear Gear. Talking 220hp.... maybe...

Re: Older TBI Guys.....
Depends. I know some of the TBI 305 heads still had guide slots like the older heads. The the push rods usually wont clear the slots with 1.6 ratio rockers. The same may also hold true for the newer heads set up for SA rockers. Your also changing the valve train geometry and, depending on the cam, it may also push the retainers too close to the tops of the guides, causing interference issues. Lastly, the change will be incremental at most. Its one of those things that you do when your doing other mods like a cam or new heads.

Re: Older TBI Guys.....
I have been told many times that 1.6 rockers would go well on my 193 heads in my Caprice but I have a roller cam engine. From what I know the truck application engines are flat tappet cams and I BELIEVE that causes the situation that Dimented has mentioned. So...if I were you...I would call a engine builder and ask before I did anything...I wouldn't want to mess up an engine.

If you still have the stock cam then they'll be ok. The lift is so low that your unlikely to exceed the limits of the heads. The only issue may be whether or not the pushrods clear the slots. The only way to find out is to pull the valve cover and install a couple and see how they fit. Do this by installing the new rocker and bottoming out the plunger in the lifter by cranking down the rocker nut and turn the motor over a couple of times by hand while observing the push rods around the slot and the rocker arm contact pattern on the valve tip. Make sure the contact pattern is still near the center and in one spot of the valve tip and that the push rods dont get too close to the push rod slots.

Also, is this motor from a truck, or a car? I would assume its from or in a caprice or similar, but if it came from a truck or was meant for a truck, then it may have a flat tappet cam, which in some ways opens up more possibilities when it comes to cam swaps.

YEah...like a pretty sick exhaust note. That's what I always notice...a flat tappet sounds better. The ramp isn't as steep as a roller cam but their better in truck and 4x4 applications for low end power.

Re: Older TBI Guys.....
Not Sure if this helps. The block has PJC for a Suffix... I havent looked it up yet...
I will try some of those 1.6 rockers and check the pushrod, make sure it seats like its supposed to... It would suck to have a push rod come out from under a Rocker... ouch...
