is this egr valve operating correctly?
at idle it is closed completely .... crack throttle open slowly and it starts opening and opens more with more opening of the throttle .... when it does the mortor tends to stumble a bit not much though .... just getting car ready for smog so need to know if this stuff is operating like it should.

Which BCC does your ECM have??? EGR valve supposed to be only operable when all of the following conditions are met:
CTS above a certain temperature (typ 25C+)
TPS is off idle
Engine RPM above a threshold
MAP value is in certain range
VSS is certain range
All of the above parameters are stored inside EPROM which can be specific for your engine combo. Since you have transplant this may get tricky. In Cali we have IM240 testing done at two speeds 15 and 25 MPH and some calibrations may not enable EGR at all!
I just took look at 7747 ASDU (truck) calibration and it has both low and high VSS on set to 0.0 MPH which means EGR will be operable while vehicle is stationery. Yours might be different
From your description it appears that EGR is functional.
Since you have a (CCC) carb to FI transplant you may (almost certainly will) have to go to referee station for a special sticker - certification. Once you get your combo certified you may re-think the second transpalnt! Make absolutely sure that you've transplanted all emission stuff from '90 donor. You can run a pre-test just to make sure that you do not have something grossly out of whack before heading to referee station. That is the price we have to pay for living in the Eco-**** state of Kalifornia.

I have a 7747 ecm with a suburbam prom ..... no it's been smogged with the engine already and passed without going to a ref ...
----------
ASDU is my broadcast .... I was asking cuase I changed from the 8746 ecm and the car got noisier and how the egr was operating changed but if it will open like this in motion I will be fine then

Re: is this egr valve operating correctly?
Most Smog test stations do not look at ECM's - keep your fingers crossed. From a swap point of view (from Cal CARB directives) you should not swap 'truck' engine into a 'car'. So, they may take dim view if they see 7747 ECM instead of 8746. In certain respects 8746 is better of the two since it has IAT input and (I do not recall) CPP control line.

My car is a test only car. drove it in with the 5.7 TBI swap and it passed with ease. I also have my CAT changed before smogging so that helps it considerably too.
