Does this intake scoop work???

Is this intake really useful, and worth $200? It was posted by thomas1976 under "kickass cold air intake scoop".

Re: Does this intake scoop work???

with a near stock car and stock ECM, I wouldnt use a CAI. The ECM has very little capability to compensate for the cold air, which will skew the fueling, and possibly make the car run poorly.

At what low air themperatures will the ECM screw the fueling? Do I have to find a alternative for the winther season?

Since I bored the holes in the hood and put the sealing rubber on top of the scoop, by stomping the gas many thimes on swiss higway, Im making 9.2L/100km (26mls/USgallon) vs the 10.16L/100km before the boring.

Theres no real set temperature, but in the cold months, putting a cone element on it so it takes in air from the engine comp. wouldn't be a bad idea. With a stock intake manifold its not quite as bad as theyre fully heated and the coolant will help keep the fuel from going out of suspension. Youll still see some skewing of the AFRs, though when its really cold out as the ECM wont really compensate for the denser air.

The "fully heated" I understand, what do you intend with "and the coolant will help..." ?

Sorry I got it - the hot coolant -
But could you explain me "the skewing of the AFRs" ?
