dual duct on tbi
well sorry if this is long but here is my process of getting a dual duct air cleaner on my 91 RS. Now i'm doing this b/c the stock air cleaner is pretty restictive and I used to have a 84 h.o. camaro and liked the look. So here are some pics and descriptions of what i've done. I'm sure others have done it an thiers looks better but this was an impulse thing
.
First i took the air cleaner that ws rusted really bad and strippd it down, put rust "proof" primer (three coats) then appliance spray paint (two coats, i personally like the shiny look not the flat black)
the lid (sorry pics are so big)

The air cleaner base:

(i'm multi posting and yes the white specks are dust
)

Re: dual duct on tbi
It won't fit if you have serpentine stuff and air injection stuff in place.

The under side of the base

It came out pretty good and looks great in person. As you know though the air cleaner is the easy part. There is no room for 91 fir the left air duct so i had to mov some stuff.
These pictures hopefully show what i did.
First of all i removed the acumulator(?) (silver cynider for AC). I then went to the hardware store and bought hose connectors with barbd ends. I cut the lines close to the firewall and put the heat controller where the acumilator was with the heat line from the rad going through the hoop. That freed up some roombut the air diverter was also in the way. So i used the barbed hose connectors and rerouted them and the divertor down lower torwards the manifolds.
here are my vaigue pictures. lol!

All i need now is the two duct tubes and one plastic piece (i have the left one from before) and i think i might need a different overfill tank too. the 84 one had a section molded out unlike my 91

ya i know that's why i moved it.
you caught me inbetween post. thanks for the comment though.

Re: dual duct on tbi
I got it from spills (on this site). and I'm not sure which one that would be. I think the 70's Camaro's were more spread out and the Hurst h.o. was 90 but that one will cost you about 300 bucks if you find it.
You might be better off making one if you can weld. (i can't yet

Ryan, you must really find someone that can weld a flat base on that air box. Stock drop base + spacer ring to flat base was the most noticeble improvement I had by playng with the air intake.
I like the look of the L69 air intake set up.

Re: dual duct on tbi
thanks but will it fit under the hood? and for now i'll leave it alone. I'd like to get it to fit then fine tune everything and make it look good and operate the best.

Sorry Ryan, I whanted to do mesuring before writing but I forgot.
Stock higt of the air cleaner is about 3" and you need to have the base 5mm higher then the TB to clear the trottle linkage. So you should have anough clearence.
Most flat bases will raise more then 5mm, you may have to cut.
Robberfrank built his own open element, he cut a flat shet of metal or aluminum for the base and chamfered the top of the trottle linkage.
For your L69, I would cut the flat base + make a 5mm spacer ring, stick it under the L69 with stock spacer ring removed, test if it fits under the hood.
If it fits, cut the center out of the L69, put highthemp. silicon to glue the 3 parts togheter. It should hold wery well once drie. I glued a aluminiun set up once and cant get it appart anymore.
For the TBI spacer you can use plasticine on top of the housing to see how much space is left. Keep in mind that the engine twists and will lift the drivers side part of the filter housing easely 1". Probably better to take it for a drive for safe mesuring.
From what I read the spacer wont give you noticeble hp.
