Please Help

Just put on some iroc rims on my RS. Stock 16 inch, once I put them all on and torqued the lugnuts to 100 I got in to drive it and the car wont move just idling. When I gas it, theres a loud grinding noise like something is rubbing together. I checked around all the tires and the tires are rubbing against anything. So Im thinking its something on the inner part of the wheel maybe. Any ideas on what I should check?

Re: Please Help

aaackkk!!!!! Stop!!!!!!!

All 16" camaro wheels have different offsets for the front and rear wheels. Go check, they are labeled between the spokes. Hopefully you haven't ruined the wheels yet.

Re: Please Help

Sh*t!!! The fatter tires were on the front rims and the skinnier ones on the rear rims. I asked the auto parts guy where i got some of the tools and he said it should all fit. Damn it. I just backed out of driveway and drove about 20 feet. Hopefully they are still ok.

Re: Please Help

run your hand all around the tire front and back. make sure the tire is not rubbing anywhere. most likely the tire sits in too close to a plastic trim piece or something. find where it is and give us a report! also 100 ft lbs of tq is not right. alumn should be 85 and steel 125 according to my manual. good luck!

yep that's why in small print on the inside of the rim it says "FRONT" or "BACK". gives me an excuse not to rotate them. lol!

Re: Please Help

it seems as if the tie rod end in the front is hittin the inner part of the wheel. Im going to try to find a spacer or just get some washers in between there and check again. and i will re torque them to 85 too.

Re: Please Help

Why dont you just rotate the front's to the back and vice versa and it should all work out (unless you put them on random, and have only one rear on the front).

Either way, you should probably replace the whole steering assy maybe more. If they were hitting hard enough to hold up the car when it was idling in drive, that is alot of force.

Re: Please Help

cuz the ones on the back have the wider tires already on them. So if i can get away with a spacer it will be less work.

Re: Please Help

Sounds like you need to head out to the tire shop to have them all put on the right rims. Id do it right rather then try to force a solution. It might be more work now, but less aggravation later.

Re: Please Help

What Dimented said,

There is over 1/2" of backspacing difference between the wheels, no good way to use a spacer that thick and don't even think about washers.
