another IAT question, HELP.

IAT sensor is that little thing that attaches in the air cleaner am I right? it has a little black square around it and like a little white plastic basket on the end? Anyway, I melted the top part, and the SES light was on for a minute, but then off when I moved it to a diferent spot. I am not sure if its destroyed or not though. Can I put it in the snorkel of my cold air intake by the air cleaner? Will my car blow up if I don't replace it, or just run poorly? Where is the best place to put it.

Re: another IAT question, HELP.

Id just put it in the CAI. You can even use a threaded coolant temp sensor. The actual RTD element is the same for all GM temp sensors. The car wont blow up without the IAT per se, but the IAT does effect the fueling and knock sensor handling. The code was probably from the IAT getting too hot when it melted.
