Re: TBI question

The stock pump puts out 9-11 PSI, but this is due to the internal bypass style regulator in the TBI unit. The pump its self bypasses at ~15 PSI.

that's all. So a rubber fuel hose or steel braided line and hose clamp won't blast off then? Right?

I know that. It didn't "gel" as to fuel pressure.

No, BUT over time it may work it's way off.
Put a small flare in the steel line and it'll stay.
( a *small* flare, just enough so the hose clamp won't slip past )

Re: TBI question

The stock pump will put out over 100 psi if you dead head the fuel line....nothing built into the pump to regulate pressure. The stock regulator is set for 12 psi as already mentioned.

Most people get confused and think the pump is what sets pressure. What can happen is that the pump can not keep up with the fuel demand (volume) and therefore can't get the pressure up to what the regulator is set for. What a lot of guys see happen is that the stock pump can't supply 12 psi at any power much past stock....easy fix is a walbro 190.

Re: TBI question

Uh, the stock f-body TBI pump is lucky to dead head at 20 psi. It is a turbine pump.

The factory spec for f-body TBI fuel pressure is 9 - 13 psi.

Its more like 16 PSI (MAX) on everything that I have messed with using the stock Delco pump. The stock regulators are 12-14 PSI on every truck that I have messed with, excluding the 2.8 S10s which are 10.5 PSI. As RBob mentioned it is a turbine pump which is not a positive displacement pump like a roller vane pump is (TPI)

Re: TBI question

To satisfy my interest what is the difference internally between a turbine pump and a positive displacement pump like a roller vane pump is (TPI)

Re: TBI question

A turbine pump when dissasembled looks like it has a turbine from a jet engine that pumps the fuel. A roller vane pump is internally similar to an oil pump or roots style supercharger.
