nope. a cam swap would be a better idea, and a complete exhaust upgrade

How about an exhaust, then the edelbrock intake? Only reason I ask is because I have heard a few people from around here swear that that intake is great on a nearly stock motor.
Also, you guys always recommend a cam swap. That is alot of work. Not to mention you will need to learn how to tune to get the car to drive afterwards. I will never have money or time to learn how to tune my car. Some of us look for mods that will increase power, on the factory tune. Just saying.

I put an edelbrock 3704 intake on a stock TBI 350 in a Van, the stock 350 LOST TQ on the dyno. Even after tuning it still lost torque. The power up top was identical to the stock intake. A stock 305 will lose even more torque with the 3704 on it.Originally Posted by slow_90firebird

The exhaust, CAM, and factory TUNE are the restrictions that need to be dealt with first.
One of the First things that needs to be taken care of is the lame factory timing advance curve in the chip.

The Power Enrichment air/fuel ratio (WOT) needs to be leaned out from the high 10s/low 11s to the mid 12s to get some extra power as well.
I have found 30 ft/lbs of torque over a broad RPM band in the stock tune. The torque gains generally taper off as the engine RPMs increase, netting around 10-15 HP more in many cases.

That would be nice if we could all afford a few hundred dollars of tuning equipment, and then figure out how to use it. It would be easier if a member on here sold custom PROMs for like $100 or $150 like my last car forum.
Another thing is I have read most if not all the FAQ and beginner pages in the prom burning section. It gives you a ton of information on what to buy, how to plug it in, ect. But what we noobs need to begin learing how to tune is definative tables like the ones you just posted. If I was able to tune my car, I would go right out and type that timing table in right now.

I had this intake on my Formula for several years (15 I think) and I did notice the car ran a bit stronger than with the OE intake. Mine was the early design that had the removeable "torque tubes" that you inserted into the bores beneath the TB. This was supposed to boost low rpm torque at the expense of top end. The one offered now has just one standard throttle bore size which could explain why so many people feel it is a bad intake. I'm not disputing anyone's opinions of this intake, I just know it perked my car up a bit.

so you want to go faster but you dont want to do any work? My car runs fine and i have never done any chip tuning could it run better? i bet..i ran a 305 chip on my cammed 350 for over a year and i didnt have lean spark plugs. Just go buy a car thats already fast if you dont wanna do any work

The reason we harp on tuning yourself is that there is no hard and fast rule of what timing table your engine will need. The table fast posted is a good one to start with, but you'll have to tailor it to your engine. Your's may need more or less timing with the same identical parts as fast's engine.
The further you move away from the stock the more this is true. You can have ALL the tuning equipment for less than $150. I'll tell you what changes the mail order chip guys make or heck even post a copy of one of their bin files.
Seriously if you want to make power with FI you have to learn to tune. You can gain about 20 hp on the stock tune and that's all it'll take. Doesn't really matter what parts you use to get that extra 20hp.

Then what would be a good intake then? I have the 3704 bored to 50mm and it made a bit of differance on the butt dyno. If there is a better one I'm all for it.

This was how it ran on top of my 350 in my Fullsize Van with 3.08 gears (the A/C was even blasting in the video). The point of the video I am linking wasn't to show the raw ***** out power it could make, but rather the driveability around town of the single plain manifold and TBI. I never went more than 1/2 throttle, 4,000 rpm, or even into Power Enrichment fuel mode.

not to hijack but how do you think this intake would do with zz4 heads and cam? how hard would it be to tune?

So you bore the top throttle body part of it too 2in? And that works fine with the stock throttle body?
Im asking because im very much considering getting this intake manifold, and if getting that top part bored out to 2in its supposed to work good, then im going to get it.
