I have a 350 tbi out of an 87 chevy P/U that I will be putting in an 86 Iroc that originally had a 305 tpi. I have the ecm from the pickup along with all the wires that ran through the firewall to the engine. The Camaro is in another state and I won't be towing it back for a few months, so I have no reference point. I was just trying to make sure I had everything I needed to throw the motor in when it gets here. My question is, I know I will have to remove the wires that run through the firewall on the Camaro and replace them with the wires from the pickup, but what about the wires that run under the dash? Can those wires just be plugged directly into the ECM?

Hold off on pulling your TPI harness just yet. The two PCM's are very similar, except that TPI harness will have MAF specific wiring and few other things that trucks do not use (IAT, CCP). What you need to do is to find out which ECM you have in your '86 Camaro (most likely 1227165), while truck came equipped with 1227747 ECM. compare harness schematics side by side, compile connect pin list and see where differences are. You would be very surprised to find that 90 percent are the same.

Yes, you should be able to use your 7747 ECM. You are just in luck, I had ECM pin outs for 7747 & 7165 on two different spreadsheets. Here is the side by side pin outs - use Firefox to download and view (Internet Explorer has a bug!).
As you can see you only need to bring a single new signal - starter cranking signal C9 to use 7747. Plus, couple lines would need to be re-routed to various sensors (MAP). BTW a word of caution - use it this info at your own risk - the usual disclaimer. You'll have to wire a custom control circuit for cooling fan as 7747 does not have this capability. A simple temp switch and a relay should do the job.
