Re: NEED HELP!! QUESTIONS ABOUT MY ENGINE!

Ok thanks cause i recently bought an Edelbrock Performer Plus camshaft but come to find out its a flat tappet. So in order to use it i have to swap pushrods. But im putting a set of 96+ Vortec heads and intake manifold on so im going to buy the 08-500-8 Comp Camshaft and return my Edelbrock. Is that comp cam a good choice or can i use an LT4 or LT1 cam?

Re: NEED HELP!! QUESTIONS ABOUT MY ENGINE!

Honestlydude, you should keep it hydr. roller.

seriously, because

A) thats what it came with from the factory
B) theres no break in for a roller cam
C) it may effect the rest of your valvetrain
D) It may effect performance.

Also cam bearings. How are your's? What did you cam journals look like when you pulled it out? If they have any kind of scoring or appear as though theres been a starvation of oil at any point on them at any time you will want to replace them.
Alot of guys use the LT1/LT4 cam's in the EFI 305's that came in the F-cars i know. However the cam is only going to take you so far. The factory heads that came on L03's really kinda suck for any performance/power building

Re: NEED HELP!! QUESTIONS ABOUT MY ENGINE!

the cam journals looked fine no wear. I am going to keep it roller but i didnt relize that the cam i bought was a flat tappet which is why im bringing it back to get the comp cam. and im replacing my heads and intake with thos eof a 96+ 305 Votec heads and intake from a 1996 chevy Z71 4x4 truck. Just have to send the heads out to be remaned and order new springs.

Re: NEED HELP!! QUESTIONS ABOUT MY ENGINE!

Good stuff meng!

I've always heard the vortec heads were really good heads from the factory so for your application maybe some mild porting, new valve stem seals, guides and a slight mil job to bump up the compression a lttle, slap her back together and start saving for a converter and

Re: NEED HELP!! QUESTIONS ABOUT MY ENGINE!

yeah seeing as i already ran a high 15 stock, this setup along with the cam, my headers, timing kit, and shift kit and maybe even a 454 TB should get me well into the 13's lol
