What are these engine connectors??

I have my 88 305 TBI engine harness laid out on the bench going through the broken connectors and had a question about two in particular.

They are located in the harness near the starter connectons which lead me to believe at least one of them is the knock sensor connector.

I was leaning to believe that the black one that is broken is the knock sensor connector however the chilton manual I have infront of me is saying the connector with the white wire is the knock sensor.......which would mean it's the white colored connector on the left.

Any ideas as to what these two go to??? One has a white wire and the other has a black wire, both connectors look almost identical and they are located right at the starter connections which mean they would connect at the lower passenger side of the engine.

Thanks for the help and a fast reply would be great because I want to order the replacement black connector pretty quick as soon as I can find out what it is.

The black one, is your fan switch, it should be on the pass side, between the two back cyls, right by the dipstick. The other connector is probably the knock sensor, just judging by proximity, since the knock sensor is right on that side also.

The black connector is NOT broken. Rather it has part of the sensor/switch broken off in it. Just squeeze the tabs on the connector and pull the broken piece of connector out of it. The white connector should be the fan switch and the black one the Knock Sensor. The knock sensor wire is usually blue in color.

Good call fast, now that I look at it, the white one is a press on fit, it look diffrent for some reason when I look at it.

yeah, its got a broken piece in it. If you take a closer look at that 'black' wire and hit it with some brake cleaner, it will probably show up dark blue, unless it's been replaced.
