Camshaft
I'm lookin at putting together a 305 roller cam motor I have laying around for my 91 caprice daily driver, it's gonna be a completly stock motor for now aside from a camshaft, and I was wondering if anyone knew if the comp cams xfi252 hydraulic roller cam would be too much cam for a stock computer or if I'm gonna have to get a custom chip burned for it. The car is stock now with the exception of a dynomax welded muffler and turndown, I plan on adding all the TBI bolt on upgrades as I can afford as well as a dual exhaust with flowmaster mufflers. I know when I eventually get some money I'm gonna upgrade the heads to vortec heads and the matching intake and I'll need to get a chip burned then but was wondering how far I can go before I'll need to get a chip burned, I know these TBI motors are touchy to upgrades due to it being a MAP system instead of MAF. If that's too big of a change in cam I was also looking at the XR258HR cam from comp. Thanks for the help everyone and looking forward to hearing everyone elses opinion.

And far as I know, pretty much any camshaft you get would need computer modification. If you plan on doing more mods id suggest getting the EBL system dynamicefi.com

Yeah I already know about the LT1 cam swap, but not what I would like, the Comp cam has more potential, and I'm pretty sure it's still got a small enough duration that it will work with the stock computer. I know MAF TPI's can go with pretty big changes in cam's before u need to upgrade the tune but not positive on how far u can go with the MAP TBI. Here is a link to the cam specs.

Try emailing comp. They are very helpful and im sure they could tell you if it would be recommended to use the stock computer.
But I say you should get the EBL system from dynamicefi.com AND get a bigger cam and heads. Unless you plan of just doing the cam swap, then just see what comp says.

Also there are no real bolt on upgrades for tbi and your stock tb is good to 280hp after that you can always do the ultimate tb modes, for 320hp?

I spoke to comp cams the other day and found out the cam I was lookin at wouldn't work with the stock computer, but the other cam I was interested in will. I know I won't get the full benefits without a custom tune but I'll barely be able to do the cam let alone custom tuning, I'll eventually do it but I can only do things a little at a time. I got a family to take care of and not a whole lot of money. As far as bolt ons I'm gonna go with a bigger throttle body and headers and dual exhaust, possibly underdrive pulleys if they have them. I'm gonna eventually change the heads and intake too, just as money allows me to, on a very restricted budget. Who knows maybe even a supercharger or turbo some time down the road. I might not even modify the TBI but eventually switch over to TPI. I plan on eventually doing it anyways so not too sure yet. Depends on the budget and what I can come across.

You dont need a new throttle body unless your going for 300rwhp+
And basically everything you listed requires tuning. I would just get the EBL flash and start learning how to tune [its really not that hard, and all you need with the EBL is a laptop]
So either pay up for the computer tuning and get the camshaft later OR go carb
