Open element Air Filter

Hey ya'll, its common knowledge this is a good way to get more power out of a TBI setup, but what kind of effect has it had on everyone's fuel economy?

Re: Open element Air Filter

No negative affect on my fuel consumption, I have not however ever noticed an increase in MPG. The only mod that I have done that increases MPG was adding headers.

Re: Open element Air Filter

MPG did not change at all for me. All it did was make my car run smoother and slightly better throttle response, still not that great. More of a supporting mod I think. BUt like I said no MPG change for me...

Re: Open element Air Filter

no change in mpg either here, but i notice that at night when its nice and chill out, feels a bit more powerful with the Open Air setup then the stocker.

Not to mention your car will breathe alot better, it can breathe 360 now instead of just 30degree chunk

Re: Open element Air Filter

An open element air cleaner simply eliminates the restriction created by the small single snorkel. Then, the next most restrictive component quickly comes into play. In no particular order - throttle body, intake, valves & heads, cam, exhaust manifolds, catalytic converter, exhaust pipes, and muffler.

If I recall, I got a little better throttle response. But, no significant increase in power or gas mileage. I hear a dual snorkel w/ ducting to pull in cooler air from outside the engine bay is actually a better configuration.

Although, open elements look good in my opinion ...

i didn't notice an effect one way or the other on fuel economy. I do have more power, especially high-end, but heres the deal:

If you live someplace hot like me (Georgia) you may actually loose low end power in the summer.

My low end got a little sluggish but my 3500-5500 performance improved. When it is cool out my performance and throttle response iimproved across the board. My car also runs hotter in the summer now due to the higher intake temps. All in All I'd say go for it.

Re: Open element Air Filter

i run a L69 w/ a really big filter that exposes the top 2" of the filter. Found it worked better. Also just getting rid of the drop base and spacer helped too. MPG not a big difference but over 3000 rpm a good change. I will later hook up hoses to the intake but have failed to find one that fits.

I forgot about mentioning that. My engine had a much meaner sound! I love it! I understand that the OP was asking about MPG but I still say worth it for other reasons. I got mine at Advance for $12, 9" by 3" chrome

not to be rude, but for starters, start your own thread instead of jacking this guys...and we will all be more than willing to input things to do...make a new thread and we shall talk.
