no spark, no fuel (long post)
no spark, no fuel (long post)
My camaro in the sig will turn over all day long but does not have spark or fuel. Before I got into more detail, here is a list of parts that have been replaced recently:
Cap/rotor/coil
Ignition switch
ECM
Coolant temp. sensor
Map sensor
Oil pressure sending unit
Fuel pump/Relay and pigtail connector/strainer (installed by local shop)
Clutch start switch
Starter enable relay (bypassed: Vats disabled by previous owner)
Ignition Control Module
7 of 8 plugs (I can't reach #8)
I am currently throwing codes 53 and 54:
53, in my case, points at "system over voltage", which I am guessing is a bad ground/loose wire somewhere.
54 points to fuel pump/relay problem, but this has been replaced recently and primes fine when key is in the on position.
After hours of searching, I'm leaning towards a loose wire somewhere near the fuel pump relay or distributor. I had to get up inside the engine bay to replace some spark plugs and I may have knocked something loose (also a wire may have been knocked loose next to the fuel pump relay). It may also be the pickup coil in the dizzy, but If my tach is working while cranking, wouldn't that mean it's functioning? I think if I find this spark issue the fuel issue will be solved with it (injectors tested fine recently). Anyone have any additional input? Thanks in advance!

Check if your car primes the fuel lines when you start it, it primes the pump but is that fuel getting up to the Throttle body? crack a line Throttle unit, gas should come out if your good.
Double check installation of cap/rotor , make sure you didnt pinch the wires of the ICM while putting the new cap on.
Check all fuses.
Check the ground wires at the starter, block, firewall, ect
You have to go from underneath to get plug #8, also makes 5,6,7 easier.
*worst case scenario your computer is roasted *

I have discovered I have spark from the coil but it is not making it to the distributor. I am no longer throwing code 54, just 53 at this point. All fuses are good, as well as ground connections on the heads and firewall (will check grounds on starter tomorrow, but unlikely this is the case). Cap and rotor are good to go.

Re: no spark, no fuel (long post)
After putting a new wire between the coil and cap I now have complete spark all the way to the plugs. I tested the injector wires and the computer is sending the signals to fire, but the injectors are not. The car will start when gas is poured into the throttle body.

Re: no spark, no fuel (long post)
are u getting gas to the injectors ? crack the fuel line on the back of the TBI if you have it, and i belive the TPI has fuel rail releif valve you could press to see if fuel comes out. I have someone crank it while that line is off. If you got fuel to that point you can eliminate alot of things that could be the cause.
Your code 53 is stating that there is a over voltage on the charging system, this could be the regulator in the alternator, mine went out, then a few months later the alternator died, had code 53, after replacing the alternator it went away.

Re: no spark, no fuel (long post)
Just now got a day off to troubleshoot. Cracked open a line and was getting gas to the TBI unit. Figured it was the Fuel Pressure regulator. Purchased a rebuild kit and it still wouldn't run. The injectors would fire until it started to run, then cutting off again, which killed the engine. I'm stumped and will not put another dime into the finicky fuel injection. My plan was to go carb all along and that time has now come. Thanks for the replies and help.
