Should I carburate?

Okay i have and 89 camaro rs, I am dropping a custom 350 to replace the tired 305, I was planning on using a bigblock TBI to keep gas mileage good and because well in my opinion a well tuned TBI can beat a carb anyday. now my question is would it be better to do this my way or to carb it?

please dont hesitate to state ur opinions i would like some truly honest feed back.

oh the new engine is putting out roughly 400+ hp with a carb in another car.

Re: Should I carburate?

TBI is going to require tuning, sensors, etc. The flip is the gas mileage, TBI should do a better job than the carb. Performance is a moot point, TBI and carb should both deliver about the same power if setup right. Carbs are pretty easy to setup and tune, it really all depends. If this is a daily driver that needs good mileage, TBI all the way. If its a toy thats just gonna get flogged anyways, a carb may be the simpler, cheaper way than setting up a TBI system to do 400+hp.

Its gonna be a daily driver/sleeper for all the punk rich kids at my college who think that people who work on their cars are low-lifes. Most of them just by new mustangs and chargers and say ha im faster cause i spent more money on my car, that just really pisses me off.

Re: Should I carburate?

The stock BB TBI units flow around 620 cfm and would be a reasonably close match to your 400 HP engine, probably slightly undersized if the engine is really putting out 400 HP but for a street car probably a good match.

You'll definitely need to do some custom tuning to make it run right, an EBL system from www.dynamicefi.com is a slick and relatively easy way to get that done.

You'll need to bump up your fuel pump and make sure to select the right injectors and fuel pressure, there's lots of posts on this forum regarding that topic that you should read through. Fortunately TBI injectors work well with over pressures (up to 30 lbs or so), which gives you more flexibility on the injectors as you can adjust your fuel pressure to get the right fuel delivery range.

Good luck-
