Re: 358 TBI Build Help
he is looking for gobs of TQ for the heavy caprice wagon, and he is going to change his springs on the heads... He is keeping the TBI heads.
Is the smaller 305 heads going to raise compression even more? or is it workable?
the short block is already assembled with flat top pistons, so the compression is sorta on the high side... the block is a 1970 something... that means its prob going to be a 2peice rear main, and his old L03 might have been a 1peice. also Im certain its a flat tappet block, thus the cam we picked out.
GUYS please help him, as he is new to TGO... he is going to be using the EBL to tune it with.

The cam you link will be fine for the 358. It's a baby cam, but will provide
power where the engine combo will make power. It also has a 4 degree
advance which will produce peak torque sooner in the RPM band.

That cam is fine for the 358. It's a not a high RPM cam, but that's OK
for this set up.
As long as you're not looking to break any track , or dyno records that
camshaft will produce excellent power for street use.

I am runnig the next bigger Voodoo the 60101 but compression is an issue
you can't run it to high. When I got mine I didn't even check on the 60100
which probally would have been better with stock SP heads.

I think that you should look into a few other cam choices. Im runnin a comp Xe256h and I think that it has a litte more lift and duration than that cam, it runs good and idle's nice. Easy cam to tune. Has a very good 1500 to 4800 rpm range with my current setup. I would love to try the EBL as well but good luck on that combo. Do you have any idea what the Compression ratio is going to be??? As for the older block it wont cause you any problems, just get the right flexplate, non external balance and a slightly different bolt pattern. Any tranny shop can give you the right part#. As for being a 2p rear main, invest in the felpro one piece gasket for the pan and you wont be disapointed. Also remember to get the right water pump for the year of your car. The newer serpentive setups turn the opposite direction of the older v-belt setups. Im running a virgin 4bolt 350 from an 80 4x4 with no problems. Just waiting for the right excuse to do a nice rebuild/Stroker. Have fun and keep us updated.
