TBI Progress
Looking back to the time this article was written in 1992, TBI has progressed tremendously. This AFR headed 350 was only capable of 175 RWHP!!!! I had a stock head, stock cam 305 that made 181 RWHP.

Re: TBI Progress
There must have been a few things wrong with that truck (92 'burban). They measured 142 rwhp @ 3500 rpm and only increased by 1 hp with the Borla exh. Most stock TBI LO5s, in good tune, dyno at 165-170 rwhp @ 4000+.... numbers that are sensible for a 195 to 205 fwhp engine. The numbers they obtained with the LT1-clone AFR heads were what they should have measured in the first place.
AFR heads on a LO5 in good tune (custom tuned chip, not the one they used) would have resulted in 240-245 fwhp, or around 200 at the rear wheels. So all the power that the heads added only made up for the stock power that they were missing all along.
TBI tuning has come a long way (Fast355 had a big part in that), but the people who worked on that 1992 truck goofed bigtime. They should have known better... or maybe they figured the readers weren't smart enough to figure it out.
