passing california smog check with 1.6 rockers

so last year i passed smog with headers/exhaust/high flow cat,
ultimate tbi mods/ported tbi/spacer

but this year i installed a 3 wire 02 and 1.6 roller rockers/compcam springs

has anyone done this, will the extra lift effect the sniffer results enough to make a big difference, or will the new 02 help out enough to save me

the car runs and idles smooth.

shold i be able to pass,

i really don't want to pull off the 1.6 rockers to put on the 1.5 rockers, pass the test, then put the 1.6 back rockers on

will i pass, how will the 1.6 rockers effect the sniffer results?

when you go for the test ask for a pretest first. this way if you end up failing miserably you wont get listed as a gross polluter. and at the same time itll only be a few bucks more if it does pass for the certificate

1.6 rockers arent going to affect your smog numbers enough to fail you. Probably wont make any difference at all.

However, the 20 year old stock valve springs on the heads probably wont like the extra lift very much. I'd recommend a set of Manley 22409-16 and 23652-16 retainers. The 22409's are stock replacements and the 23652 +0.050" retainers will give you the space for the extra lift. If your car smokes a little on start up you'll want to get in there and replace the valve stem seals anyway. You can change the springs at the same time.

Re: passing california smog check with 1.6 rockers

Thanks for the replys. Yeah i installed the comp cams springs with the roller rockers, i was thinking that it wouldn't make too much of a difference either, the car still runs the same just a little bit stronger, and still idles smooth so i was thinking that as long as everything else works i should be ok.

i have to throw the smog pump back on and put the air cleaner back to stock, turn the fuel pressure down, pull some timing, and will see how it goes.

Re: passing california smog check with 1.6 rockers

Ok so it's been 5 months and i finally went to th smog check today. and i passed, yay for me, i get my registration back. so i drove the hell out of the car for 20-30 minutes went to the station and heres my results

15 mph: %Co2=13.5, %02= 1.7, HC{ppm} max 110= measure = 110

CO% max .71 measure=.05 NO {ppm} max 772 measure= 338

25 mph : %Co2=13.7, %02= 1.5, HC{ppm} max 85 measure = 80, CO% max .59 measure =.01, NO {ppm} max 711 measure = 306

so i did real good.... except the HC barely past bolth of thoose test, max 110 measure = 110 one of my plug wires looked abit burnt, if i had a fresh tune up i probaly would have passed with flying colors, with a fully ported/ modified TBI with spacer adjustable fuel pressure reg. headers and full exhaust 1.6 roller rockers, 2 degrees advanced timing, and a modified Wells 123 egr

in addintion i don't think my smog pump is working right, the diverter valve doesn't divert it always has both the cat and header ports open and pumping with air. maybe a new diverter valve would have helped as well
