Why is it bad if distributor is "off a tooth" ?
Why is it bad if distributor is "off a tooth" ?
You often see people saying, "yeah, I fixed the problem...my distributor was off a tooth".
Wouldn't one be able to put the distributor in anyway one would like and simply adjust the cap left or right to get proper timing? As long as the rotor strikes the #1 contact when the #1 cylinder is at TDC, who cares what the orietnation is of the actual distributor?
Am I missing something?

Usually the ignition wires or the spark plug wires connected to the cap prevent you from turning the cap far enough to get proper timing.
