Newbie: 83 Z28 305 Cross Fire (2) TBI - Fuel Filter?
Hello,
Is there a fuel filter on this car? We couldn't find one when we replaced the fuel pump.
Also, Are the injectors sposed to feed a contant jet of fuel or intermitent like a sprinkler?
One more, Fuel line on the passenger side was loose.... rubber hose on a high pressure system. Is this normal?
Thanks.
Dan

The fuel filter is located in a bracket on the front passenger side of the engine block where the mechanical fuel pump normally is on carburated cars.
The Cross-Fire is a low pressure fuel injection system. It only runs around 13 PSI so it uses standard hose connections.

Dford the short rubber line was meant to provide a flexible connection between the feed line and the block mounted filter. Sometimes people will trim a bad end instead of replacing the entire section of hose. I replaced mine with high pressure hose just for added insurance. I also relocated the filter from behind the alternator (great location..LOL) to the right frame rail. Also in the future I want to upgrade to a TPI pump with regulator.
The injectors do cycle but to the naked eye the appear constant. The fuel spray should be cone shaped. The CFI injectors are a bit noisy when operating properly - sounding somewhat like a ticking lifter.
Dens71TA is correct the factory gives 9 -12psi operating range for the system. This is similar to a "normal" TBI system. The front TBI has a compensator with the actual regulator in the rear TBI unit. The system actually likes 14 -30psi to operate properly.
